"I'm so emotional right now. What a night, what a night. This is why we love football, because things like this can happen... I love where I'm from, my family are here, this means the world to me. I said against Portugal that this is what dreams are made of, but I think tonight... I will never have a better night in my whole life. It is a fairytale. You can't even dream about something like that. I have no words to describe the emotions right now."
"1 - Troy Parrott is the first player in Republic of Ireland's history to score a hat-trick away from home. Astonishing. pic.twitter.com/2sBXuombnG - OptaJoe (@OptaJoe) November 16, 2025"
Troy Parrott scored three goals at the Puskas Arena to secure a dramatic win that preserved the Republic of Ireland's World Cup qualification chances and guaranteed a play-off draw place. Parrott opened with a 15th-minute penalty and later produced a neat finish to level the match, then struck a stoppage-time winner after Liam Scales' flick-on. Hungary had goals from Daniel Lukacs and Barnabas Varga that left Ireland trailing late in the game. Parrott also scored both goals in the previous win over Portugal and became the first Ireland player to score a hat-trick on foreign soil.
