'I wanted to show everyone' - Villa's comeback star Buendia
""Really important for the confidence and also to help the team," Buendia told Sky Sports. "I knew straight away from the beginning of the season I wanted to show everyone I am able to play here to help this team and club and I am able to do it every game.""
""What an amazing strike from Buendia," former Newcastle goalkeeper Shay Given told BBC Sport. "It was a goal worthy of winning any game. We're all neutrals watching the match for Match of the Day but when it went in I was jumping off the sofa, it was that good.""
Emiliano Buendía suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury in 2023 that sidelined him for around twelve months and severely limited his playing opportunities. The injury left him struggling to break back into Aston Villa's team, and the club was open to letting him leave. Buendía has reclaimed form and trust under Unai Emery, scoring three goals and providing one assist across his past four appearances. His latest sublime finish after cutting inside and converting a Matty Cash pass secured a 2-1 win over Tottenham. His recent contributions helped Villa string together three consecutive Premier League victories after a poor start. He joined Villa in 2021 for a club-record £33m and had been a regular before the injury.
