Howe claims four-goal hero Gordon could have had more in Qarabag thrashing - Soccer News
"He was really good in that first half,"
"He started the press, a number of his goals came from his attitude off the ball. He could have had more, but a very good display."
"Newcastle have one foot (and four toes) in the round of 16. Across 90 minutes, the Magpies generated 5.4 expected goals, a total only bettered this season by Liverpool (5.9) in their Champions League encounter with ... Qarabag. pic.twitter.com/1UlC4OksUT"
Anthony Gordon scored four goals, including two penalties, in the first half as Newcastle defeated Qarabag 6-1 in the Champions League play-off first leg. Newcastle led 5-0 at half-time and finished 6-1 after Malick Thiaw’s early finish and Jacob Murphy’s late goal. Gordon attempted six shots, all on target, and became only the second player to score four first-half Champions League goals. Gordon's four goals made him Newcastle's top scorer in the competition with ten and the second Englishman to reach double figures after Harry Kane. Newcastle generated 5.4 expected goals and remain in control before the second leg; Eddie Howe emphasized maintaining momentum.
