Hong Kong 1-1 Bangladesh: Hossain strikes late to deny 10-man hosts
"Hong Kong's hopes of taking a significant step towards qualifying for the Asian Cup finals suffered a blow today after Bangladesh grabbed a late equaliser to draw 1-1 at Kai Tak Stadium. Matt Orr's first-half penalty put the hosts in front but the 76th-minute dismissal of Hong Kong defender Oliver Gerbig put Ashley Westwood's side on the back foot and they could not hang on, Rakib Hossain netting the leveller with six minutes remaining."
"It was a disappointing outcome for Hong Kong, who were roared on by a passionate crowd of over 45,000. The fans did their best to inject some life into a sterile first half with the away side happy to keep the ball but unable to make much headway going forward against a Hong Kong side that were tigerish in the press."
Hong Kong led 1-0 from Matt Orr's 36th-minute penalty after Bangladesh defender Tariq Kazi mis-controlled the ball and fouled Fernando. The hosts largely sat on their lead with Bangladesh rarely threatening until Hong Kong defender Oliver Gerbig received a second yellow in the 76th minute. Bangladesh pressed after the dismissal and secured a late equaliser when Fahamedul Islam nodded a cross back across goal and Rakib Hossain tapped in. The draw leaves Hong Kong top of Group C but vulnerable to being overtaken by Singapore if Singapore win in India later.
