Kai Havertz will miss Germany's World Cup qualifiers against Slovakia and Northern Ireland because of a knee injury, DFB national team director Rudi Voller confirmed. The Arsenal forward sustained the injury during the Gunners' 1-0 victory over Manchester United on the opening weekend and missed the subsequent 5-0 win over Leeds United. The 26-year-old has not played for Germany since last November's Nations League match against Bosnia and Herzegovina and was sidelined between February and mid-May with a hamstring tear. Voller said recovery is uncertain and surgery may be required. Germany begin qualifying in Bratislava on September 4 and host Northern Ireland three days later.
