And then we come in after very limited time off and have to play again."
"I think at the moment there's just a lot of games being added to the women's game and people are just hoping everyone can cope with the load."
"Just take care of us, look after the players. We all want to play, we want to give everybody the highest level of entertainment and we can only do that if were all fully fit and that goes across the board for every single women's game."
Gotham FC lost 1-0 to South American champions Corinthians in the semifinals of the inaugural FIFA Women's Champions Cup in London. The match was Gotham's first competitive fixture since winning the NWSL championship on Nov. 22, while the new NWSL season begins March 13. Players criticized staging the Champions Cup in January during the NWSL offseason because it required cutting rest periods short after recent competitions and international tournaments. Concerns were raised about the growing number of fixtures, player workload, fitness, and injuries. FIFA plans a 16-team Women's Club World Cup from 2028, and the Champions Cup will be held annually except in Club World Cup years. Gotham suffered two injuries during the match.
