""I played for a long time, for big clubs, for my country. I learned, won, lost, and grown through it all," Boateng said. "Football has given me a lot, but now it's time to move on. "Not because I have to, but because I'm ready. I'm grateful for everything, for the teams, the fans, the people who carried me.""
Jérôme Boateng has retired from professional football at age 37 after ending his career with Austrian club LASK following mutual termination of his contract. He made 76 appearances for Germany between 2009 and 2018 and was a central figure in Germany's World Cup success in Brazil, starting all seven matches and helping keep four clean sheets, including the 1-0 extra-time victory over Argentina. Boateng spent ten years at Bayern Munich, winning 22 major honours, including nine Bundesliga titles and two Champions League trophies, and made 363 appearances across all competitions. He began his career at Hertha Berlin, played for Hamburg and spent 2010-11 at Manchester City.
