Phil Foden returned to England action with a lively cameo in a 2-0 World Cup qualifying win over Serbia, entering in the 64th minute. Bukayo Saka scored a 28th-minute volley to give England the lead. Foden operated late as a false nine, taking two shots and creating three chances overall, the most in the match. He twice set up Eberechi Eze, with Eze converting in the 90th minute. Manager Thomas Tuchel had questioned whether Foden and Jude Bellingham could both start behind Harry Kane. Foden said he can play multiple positions and enjoyed the role.
