FIFA has confirmed that the traditional two separate international breaks in September and October will be replaced by a single, longer break encompassing four international matchdays, starting in 2026.
The new international calendar aims to alleviate pressure on clubs during the start of the season by consolidating international matches into a single window, potentially reducing player injuries.
After the 2026 World Cup, the FIFA calendar will feature a longer September-October break, allowing national teams to better prepare with adequate time between matches.
There will still be two matchday breaks in mid-November, followed by breaks in March and June, continuing a structured approach to international football.
