In light of changes to the calendar driven by the expanded UEFA competitions, the FA determined that it was necessary to eliminate replays from the first round onward to address fixture congestion.
Mark Bullingham, CEO of the FA, stated that the new schedule aims to protect and enhance the magic of the cup, while also accommodating the demands of the English game.
