Lara Schenk, a 25-year-old German defender, joined the Northern Super League to play for the Montreal Roses. As the league's only German player, she takes pride in her role during its first season, aiming to promote women's soccer in North America. Schenk previously played for CDs Sporting Club de Huelva in Spain, attended Harvard University, and co-founded a group for LGBTQIA+ athletes. After completing her degree, she signed with FC Bruges and later joined RSC Anderlecht, where she won the Belgian Super.
Schenk has established herself in the starting 11 of the Montreal Roses, one of the NSL's six founding clubs, becoming the only German player in Canada's top flight.
Making history is always a unique experience, and Schenk expresses pride in being the first German player in the league during its inaugural season.
Schenk followed the path of her role model, Laura Freigang, by pursuing collegiate athletics in the USA and believes she would make the same decision again.
During her time at Harvard, Schenk co-founded a section of Athlete Ally that advocates for LGBTQIA+ inclusion in college sports, showcasing her dedication beyond soccer.
