Briefly

Wolves recovered from a first-half setback to defeat West Ham 3-2 in the EFL Cup, with two late goals inside the final eight minutes. Rodrigo Gomes opened the scoring in the 43rd minute after Hwang Hee-chan's penalty struck the post. Tomas Soucek and Lucas Paqueta headed West Ham into a second-half lead, but Jorgen Strand Larsen equalised in the 82nd minute and then nodded in Jackson Tchatchoua's cross two minutes later to complete the turnaround. Brentford followed a league victory by beating Bournemouth, and League Two Cambridge United upset Charlton Athletic 3-1.
Wolves scored twice inside the final eight minutes to earn their first win of the 2025/26 season and beat West Ham at home in the EFL Cup in one of two all-Premier League tie on the first night of the second round. Brentford claimed consecutive victories, following up their home defeat of Aston Villa in the top flight on Saturday by winning at Bournemouth. League Two side Cambridge United produced the greatest shock, winning 3-1 against Championship visitors Charlton Athletic.
No West Ham fan will need reminding that their league season has started with a 3-0 defeat at Sunderland and 5-1 thrashing at home by Chelsea, and their problems continued when Rodrigo Gomes fired in the rebound in the 43rd minute to give Wolves the lead at Molineux after Hwang Hee-chan's penalty hit a post. Two headers turned the scoreline around within 18 minutes of the restart, Tomas Soucek meeting Kyle Walker-Peters' cross and Lucas Paqueta pouncing from Jarrod Bowen's delivery.
