Dutch look to lose offside law in amatuer football
Briefly

The Dutch football association (KNVB) is considering abolishing the offside law in amateur football to tackle the rising incidence of aggression and violence related to refereeing disputes.
KNVB director Jan Dirk van der Zee highlighted the urgent need to address the increasing number of matches halted due to disorderly conduct, citing a troubling spike of 11% last season.
With 1,864 matches stopped because of violent incidents, the KNVB emphasizes that while this number is small compared to an annual total of 780,000 matches, it remains a significant concern.
Van der Zee stated, 'We have a problem, and we want to eradicate it,' indicating a willingness to consider drastic measures, including the elimination of assistant referees in the future.
