Davies in 'best ever' Canada squad for World Cup
Jesse Marsch included Bayern Munich defender Alphonso Davies, 25, in Canada’s 26-man World Cup squad described as the best ever assembled. Davies was selected despite recovering from a hamstring injury and faces a race to be fit for the 12 June opener against Bosnia and Herzegovina. The injury occurred after Bayern’s Champions League semi-final loss to Paris St-Germain, following muscle problems after an eight-month absence from an anterior cruciate ligament tear suffered in October. Juventus forward Jonathan David, Porto midfielder Stephen Eustaquio, Villarreal’s Tajon Buchanan, Tani Oluwaseyi, and Southampton forward Cyle Larin were also named. Canada will play all three group matches at home, starting in Toronto versus Bosnia, then facing Qatar and Switzerland in Vancouver.
