Conference League round-up: Crystal Palace stunned by Larnaca, Aberdeen thrashed
"Small mistakes get punished and on the other side we had enough chances to win the game. It is not just the story of today but many games. The effort was here, we were creating situations against a deep block. We had four or five big opportunities to score and we didn't and we make one mistake and you can lose a game like this."
"It is part of the game. Nobody is blaming [Jaydee Canvot] him, it just happens. The finish was excellent. If you don't score you can't win. We lost a point today. It is disappointing, it is frustrating and it hurts but on the other side we keep going. We have enough games. We had enough clear chances and then you lose sometimes. We have to learn from it."
Crystal Palace lost 1-0 at Selhurst Park to Cypriot side Larnaca in their first home European match proper. The FA Cup winners had started the Premier League strongly and had beaten Dynamo Kyiv in the league phase opener, but a loose pass by Jaydee Canvot allowed Riad Bajic to slam home the winner in the 51st minute. Palace dominated possession and created four or five clear opportunities but failed to convert. Post-match reactions emphasized that small mistakes get punished, nobody is blaming Canvot, the finishing was excellent from Larnaca, and the team must learn and move on. Larnaca are among six teams with maximum points; Fiorentina, Mainz and Rayo had notable results.
