Paige Metayer is a third-year professional with the Washington Spirit who has played forward, midfield and fullback and will face Gotham FC in the NWSL championship at PayPal Park. Metayer started four years at Cal, went undrafted, and accepted a Spirit preseason invite that led to a rookie season with 21 starts and three goals. All three goals were headed finishes from corner kicks, a skill she developed quickly despite not specializing in heading earlier. Cal coach Neil McGuire praised her soccer intellect, positional versatility, athletic fitness, technical skill and composure under pressure.
