Neymar will not return for Brazil's final two World Cup qualifiers against Chile and Bolivia next week because of a minor injury sustained last week. The 33-year-old had been close to a call-up after scoring regularly for Santos but has not worn the Brazil shirt since October 2023, when he suffered serious knee ligament injuries that have hampered his comeback attempts. Manager Carlo Ancelotti emphasized that the remaining qualifiers will be demanding and that Brazil need players in peak condition. Brazil have already secured qualification for the 2026 World Cup. The announced squad blends veterans like Alisson, Marquinhos and Casemiro with emerging talents such as Chelsea teenager Estevao and the returning Lucas Paqueta.
"Neymar sustained a minor injury last week. This will be the final two matches of the qualifiers and it will be very demanding, so we need players in their prime conditions so we can perform at the highest level," manager Carlo Ancelotti said.
"We don't need to evaluate Neymar, we all know who he is and what he is capable of. We need him in peak condition so he can help the national team the way we all know he can."
