Blackbull and Termonfeckin win handsomely to progress in Challenge Cup
Blackbull reached the next round of the Conrad Clinton Travel Challenge Cup after a home win over Raharney United. Raharney took an early lead on 12 minutes from a corner header. Blackbull responded soon after when Adam Brady was fouled in the box and Jack Wall scored from the penalty spot to level the match. The first half ended 1-1 with both teams creating chances. Blackbull went ahead on 64 minutes when Adam Brady finished after cutting through the defense. Late substitutions helped produce two more goals, including a close-range finish by Graham Duffy and a low shot by Ewan Coughlan in stoppage time.
"In glorious sunshine it was the Westmeath visitors who took a surprising lead on 12 minutes with a header from a corner kick. The hosts, though, struck back soon after when Adam Brady was brought down after a run into the box. Jack Wall placed the ball on the penalty spot and duly dispatched his kick, levelling the game just three minutes later. There was a cagey finish to the first half, with both sides having chances, and the half-time score remained 1-1."
"The Bull eventually hit the front on 64 minutes when Adam Brady scythed through the Raharney defence before slotting a shot into the bottom corner. Manager Ken Wall made a double substitution soon after, introducing Ewan Coughlan and Graham Duffy, both of whom would combine for the hosts' third goal late on. In the 89th minute Duffy played a one-two with Coughlan which put him right in front of the Raharney keeper and he finished from close range."
"Then in stoppage time Coughlan latched onto a Garreth Donnelly pass before turning and shooting low past the Raharney keeper. The Drogheda side will travel to last season's Division 2 champions Robinstown on Thursday night as they go in search of their first points in Division 1."
