Better with age? Welbeck proving pivotal for Brighton
"It's important to be honest and that was the case,"
"I was thinking of taking him off and then he surprised me again. Credit to him. Sometimes it's about timing in life - and that was good timing."
"I have the passion and love for football,"
"It's what I want to do. I feel good. I feel strong and fit so I won't be stopping soon."
Fabian Hurzeler planned to substitute Danny Welbeck before Welbeck scored a late winner as Brighton beat Newcastle United 2-1 at the Amex. Welbeck opened the scoring by lifting the ball over Nick Pope and later swept home a decisive strike from the edge of the area after Mats Wieffer's initial effort was blocked by Dan Burn. Nick Woltemade had equalised with a superb back-heeled finish. Welbeck has a higher Premier League goals-per-game rate in his thirties (0.36) than in his twenties or teens, has recently scored doubles against Newcastle and Chelsea, and won player of the match while describing strong fitness and passion for football.
