The Cardinal celebrated their season opener with a 5-2 victory over Seattle while practicing and playing in the renovated stadium, which provides a fresh setting during ongoing modifications to the softball facility. The players expressed excitement about the unique experience, with senior pitcher Kylie Chung remarking on the unexpected benefits of playing in a football stadium. Graduate student Caelan Koch emphasized the joy of playing at home with fans, appreciating the unique character of the venue during their season.
"When they told us we were going to play on a football field, I was like, 'Oh no.' But this is better than I ever imagined," said senior pitcher Kylie Chung.
"It's just so cool we get to be here and play at home versus being on the road the entire year," graduate student Caelan Koch said.
