"Barnet manager Dean Brennan has been given a nine-game ban for verbally abusing a female referee and making reference to her gender. Brennan was charged by the Football Association in December for the incident during their home defeat by Shrewsbury on 6 September, when he was sent off midway through the first half for dissent by referee Kirsty Dowle. The FA said the written reasons in the case and the decision would be published in due course."
""Throughout this case I have categorically denied the FA charge of discrimination," Brennan said in a statement. "Whilst the panel have come to their conclusion, which I have to respect, I do not agree with their decision." His statement continued to say that "there is a place in football for everyone", while he thanked the club, chairman and owners as well as a representative from the League Mangers Association and his family for their support."
Dean Brennan has been banned for nine matches, fined £2,000 and ordered to undertake mandatory education after an independent commission concluded he verbally abused a female referee and made reference to her gender. The incident occurred during Barnet's home defeat by Shrewsbury on 6 September, when Brennan was sent off by referee Kirsty Dowle for dissent. Brennan denied discrimination but must respect the panel's decision. The FA treated the abusive language as an aggravated breach. Brennan's ban prevents him from the dugout until 28 March. Brennan thanked the club, family, and supporters and affirmed his pride in his Irish heritage.
