"Getting myself back on the field was my singular goal after my injury last year, and I am so proud to have achieved that,"
"Being on the pitch every day, supporting my teammates, pushing my teammates, showing up in the way I know I can has been amazing."
Ali Riley will retire at the end of the 2025 NWSL season. She turns 38 in October and represented New Zealand internationally for nearly two decades, serving much of that time as captain. Riley was one of Angel City FC’s first signings and has been the club captain since its inaugural NWSL game. A chronic nerve injury sidelined her for large portions of the 2024 and 2025 seasons and forced her to miss the 2024 Olympics. Riley recovered to return to play in 2025 and emphasized on-field presence and leadership. Her club career includes Stanford, FC Gold Pride, Western New York Flash, Rosengard, Chelsea, and Bayern Munich.
