"A cutoff low pressure system is moving from Southern California up to the Four Corners region on Saturday night. Winds will rotate counter-clockwise around the low pressure center, allowing southerly winds to advect a good amount of moisture from the Pacific up into the Southern Rockies on Sunday morning. A lot of this moisture will fall out as rain over Arizona and New Mexico, but the terrain rises much more rapidly beginning at the San Juan and Sangre De Cristo Mountains."
"When snow begins falling on Saturday evening, snow levels will be in the range of 8,000-9,000 feet. Snow levels will gradually drop overnight, and will be down to about 7,000 feet by sunrise Sunday morning. Snow levels remain close to 7,000 feet all day Sunday before dropping a bit lower on Sunday night as cooler air moves in. However, this cooler air is only moving in as a result of winds shifting from the south to the north,"
A cutoff low will move from Southern California into the Four Corners Saturday night, with counter-clockwise winds advecting Pacific moisture into the Southern Rockies Sunday morning. Much moisture will fall as rain over Arizona and New Mexico, but the San Juan and Sangre De Cristo Mountains rise rapidly and will receive heavy snow while the southerly flow holds through midday Sunday. Snow levels begin 8,000–9,000 feet Saturday evening, fall to about 7,000 feet by sunrise, and remain near 7,000 feet Sunday before dropping further Sunday night. Cooler north winds will cut off moisture and end the snow late Sunday night. Major Southwest Colorado resorts at 9,000–12,000 feet should see mainly snow, with southern and western resorts favored.
