Ski Lift at France's Les 3 Vallees Hit by Avalanche Will Remain Closed for Rest of Season - SnowBrains
"The resort advises that Meteo France has issued a high avalanche warning (Level 4 out of 5) for Wednesday, February 18, as unstable snowpack conditions persist across the resort. While weather is expected to calm during the day, the resort warns that strong winds have left the snow cover highly reactive, with new snowfall expected to return Wednesday evening and continue into Thursday."
"Like many other regions in the Alps, Méribel has seen significant snowfalls in the last few days. 175 centimeters (69 inches) of snow fell in the last five days and more is forecast for the coming days. Avalanche deaths have been spiking, surpassing the 10-year annual average mid-season. Visitors are urged to stay on groomed runs and to follow the instructions of resort staff."
The Châtelet six-person high-speed chairlift at Méribel will remain closed for the 2025–26 season after an avalanche during controlled mitigation destroyed base-station lift infrastructure, making operations impossible. Guests should use the Plattières gondola from Mottaret. Meteo France issued a Level 4 avalanche warning for Wednesday, February 18, with unstable snowpack and strong winds leaving snow highly reactive, and new snowfall expected later. An avalanche control plan at dawn may delay lift openings. Several sectors including the 3 Valleys links, Roc de Fer, Mont Vallon, and the Tuéda Reserve will remain closed. Visitors are urged to stay on groomed runs and follow staff instructions.
