Professional Skier Shares His 5 Warmup Stretches To Do Before Every Ski Day
"Professional skier Marcus Goguen is certainly someone you can trust with ski advice. At just 21-years-old, he's already competed in three seasons of the Freeride World Tour, coming in second place overall in 2024 and first place overall in 2025. When someone like him provides advice on going injury free during the ski season, it's worth listening. Many people like to hop on the slopes without doing much to stretch out their limbs, treating the first handful of runs as "warmup runs"."
"But, especially in the early season, this is a great way to wind up with an injury. Goguen provided a few warmup stretches you can do before you get on the mountain in the video below. You'll notice that some of these stretches aren't exactly possible with ski boots on. Personally I like to do some warmup stretches right before I hop in the lift line, but the stretches in the above video are more designed to be down right before heading to the mountain."
Marcus Goguen, a professional skier who finished second overall in 2024 and first overall in 2025 on the Freeride World Tour, recommends warmup stretches to avoid injuries during ski season. Many skiers skip stretching and treat early runs as warmups, increasing injury risk. Goguen demonstrates several stretches suitable for before arriving at the mountain; some movements are not feasible with ski boots on. Doing warmups near the lift line can help, but the exercises are intended immediately before hitting the slopes. Long drives make pre-mountain routines less practical, while living close to the mountain allows effective pre-ski stretching to increase blood flow.
