"It's not often that you see the National Weather Service (NOAA) calling for 6-8 feet (72-84″) of snow in one Winter Storm Warning, but that's exactly what's happening right now for Yosemite National Park in California. It's also very abnormal to have a Winter Storm Warning, or any warning for that matter, that lasts 7 days, but again, that's what's happening right now. Yosemite's 9,945′ Tioga Pass holds some of the best backcountry skiing in the Lower 48,"
National Weather Service Hanford issued a Winter Storm Warning for Yosemite National Park outside the valley from 4 PM today to 4 PM PST Friday. Total snow accumulations of 6 to 8 feet are possible with winds gusting as high as 50 mph. Travel could become very difficult to impossible, potentially impacting Monday morning and evening commutes, and gusty winds could bring down tree branches. Forecasts indicate high snow levels initially before snow levels fall to lake and valley elevations. NOAA has issued Winter Storm Advisories across California mountains, including 18–24 inches at Mammoth above 8,500′ and 12–18 inches at Tahoe above 8,000′.
