Major Wipeout On North America's Steepest Man-Made Ski Run
"Epic top to bottom snow ski fall on Rambo in Crested Butte - an EX double black diamond that is said to be the steepest man made run in North America. I had skied it successfully in the prior month, but this time a hidden rock caught me and popped my right ski. Somehow I was able to ski away, after I hiked up to retrieve one ski, and another skier carried down the other."
"The trail is often referred to as North America's steepest man-made tree cut ski run with a continuous pitch of 55 degrees. While it is a cut and man-made trail, it still tends to lack a significant amount of coverage, meaning sticks, trees, and rocks will stick up from the surface. It is not a trail for the weak skiers and snowboarders."
Rambo is a renowned extreme ski run at Crested Butte known for its 55-degree continuous pitch and designation as North America's steepest man-made tree cut. The trail's sparse snow coverage exposes rocks, sticks, and trees, creating significant hazards. A skier lost a ski after hitting a hidden rock, fell, and slid nearly to the bottom but escaped without serious injury. The trail's status varies seasonally; it was closed as of March 5th, though forecasted snow may change conditions. Despite Rambo's closure, Crested Butte offers numerous other challenging runs for visitors.
