"I found out about the ski fundraiser and thought, 'Well, this is a way to put two things together. My passion for curing blood cancer and my passion for skiing,' said Ches Chen."
"One out of three people that I struck up a conversation with knew somebody directly who had or has blood cancer."
"'I'd love to get more people involved. If they want to ski or shred for a cause, this is a pretty good one,' he emphasized."
Chesley Chen skied one million vertical feet in a single season to raise funds for blood cancer research following his son Tristan's leukemia diagnosis. The Shred for Red fundraiser, which raised $250,000 this year and $450,000 in 2025, invites skiers to track their vertical feet to support blood cancer research. Chen joined Blood Cancer United's board, which funded the research that cured Tristan's rare diagnosis. He aims to educate others about blood cancer and encourage participation in skiing for a cause.
