Board Budder: High Performance, PFAS-Free, Biodegradable Ski and Board Wax - SnowBrains
"GearBoard Budder is a high-performance alternative to traditional paraffin-based waxes for skis and snowboards that is 100% environmentally friendly. The idea was started in 2022 by Founder Erik Smith, CEO, and cofounder Zeke Greer in Smith's garage in Salt Lake City, Utah. A lot has changed since back then, when Board Budder was still in the testing and proving phase and selling product out of the back of their van."
"Board Budder has grown significantly since its inception and has built relationships and partnerships within the industry. Its products are carried by Scheels, which has been a major validation milestone for the brand. Another exciting development is its relationship with REI. Board Budder has been tested in three REI locations in Utah over the past three winter seasons, and based on that performance, the brand is slated to roll out in REI stores across the Pacific Northwest and Rocky Mountain regions for the 2026-27 season."
GearBoard Budder is a high-performance, paraffin-free wax alternative for skis and snowboards that is 100% environmentally friendly. The product launched in 2022 by Erik Smith and cofounder Zeke Greer in Salt Lake City. Early operations focused on R&D, small production runs, and local sales while proving non-toxic wax performance to riders and shop techs. Founders promoted and demoed products at resorts, gaining initial placement in five Utah ski shops and later expansion into shops across 16 states. Partnerships now include Scheels, REI pilot sites with a Pacific Northwest and Rocky Mountain rollout planned for 2026–27, and Ski Butlers rental-fleet use. The company has moved out of Smith's garage and scaled operations to wax thousands of rental skis and boards each season.
