Two backcountry skiers were caught in an avalanche near Nuuk, Greenland, and survived for an hour under 16 feet of snow. The Qamutit SAR group received the alert at 2:46 p.m. and responded quickly with instructors and volunteers. Both victims were located using active transceivers, which were crucial for their rescue. A study indicated that victims buried for 60 minutes or more have a low survival rate. Fortunately, both skiers are now out of danger after receiving medical attention.
