In the following interview, Lucy talks about chasing winner Blandine L'Hirondel for all of the race except for a brief moment over the top where she led; how she treated the course as a 50-kilometer race to the top, 17k of limiting losses on the descent, and then a 7k race to the finish; and how this race fits into her 2026 racing plans."

Lucy Bartholomew finished second at the 2026 Transvulcania Ultramarathon in her first appearance at the event. She spent nearly the entire race chasing winner Blandine L’Hirondel, leading only briefly when she went over the top. She approached the course in stages, treating it like a 50-kilometer race to the summit, then focusing on limiting losses during the descent over about 17 kilometers. After that, she ran the final 7 kilometers as a separate effort toward the finish. The result also fits into her broader 2026 racing plans.
