Lindsey Vonn finishes Olympic downhill training on injured knee
""She was smart. She didn't go all-in,""
""She made a mistake on the bottom, but the rest looked like just good skiing, but no big risk. And to me it looked symmetrical.""
""Nothing makes me happier! No one would have believed I would be here,""
""But I made it!! I'm here, I'm smiling and no matter what, I know how lucky I am. I'm not going to waste this chance. Let's go get it!!""
Lindsey Vonn ruptured the ACL in her left knee one week earlier but still completed an aggressive training run on the Olympia delle Tofane downhill course at age 41. She got tight with her line midway and narrowly cleared a gate, led at the final checkpoints, then stood up out of her tuck before the finish and placed 11th. Aksel Lund Svindal said she was smart, took no big risks and looked symmetrical. A fog delay preceded the run, she hugged teammate Breezy Johnson at the finish, and she wore a large brace while leaving for further rehab. Vonn finished 1.39 seconds behind Jacqueline Wiles, who posted the fastest time, and wrote on social media that she felt lucky and would not waste the chance.
