Richard Branson's houseboat, Duende, played a pivotal role in the founding of Virgin Records and has sentimental value. Purchased in the 1970s, it served as both home and office. Branson shared key moments, such as signing important deals and experiencing family milestones, aboard the boat. Despite selling it and later reclaiming ownership, Duende remains a cherished part of Branson's history, containing memories of business meetings and personal family life, including the announcement of his first child's pregnancy.
It was on this houseboat that my cousin Simon Draper and I decided to start a record company Virgin Records along with my childhood friend Nik Powell.
The kids grew up on the houseboat, playing in the corner as we held meetings with anyone from Mick Jagger to serious solicitors.
