At Mount Madonna School, the largest event of the year is Ramayana!, a Broadway-scale musical acted by its preschool through grade 12 students. The parents and staff power the show, becoming makeup artists, prop makers, technicians, and stage crew in a stunning display of a school community.
Now in its 45th year, the annual performance has amassed a mainstream audience. Ramayana! tells a traditional story with full grandeur, featuring artful stage combat, elaborate sets, and even a 25-foot puppet.
