The Cupertino City Council approved new plans for a mixed-use assisted living facility with 136 homes, which significantly reduces retail space from 17,600 square feet to 4,000 square feet. The change responds to financing challenges faced by Related California, which is developing the project. The facility aims to provide more support for older adults in the community, while some council members expressed disappointment over the reduced retail options. The project will include memory care homes and public park space, benefiting local residents.
"Being able to be in a location like what Related seeks to build at the site is important to keep you in your community. It gives you broad access to various amenities," Fruen told San José Spotlight.
"We intend to be a long-term member of this community in Cupertino," Simsik said at the meeting.
