Why the Bay Area's holy grail of soft serve ice cream has suddenly vanished
""It's so sad to lose that really unique heirloom milk soft serve," said West Marin Culture Shop co-owner Luke Regalbuto."
""We're very, very sad to see them go," shared the market in an Instagram story announcing the change earlier this month."
"Moreda told SFGATE that Renati had opportunities to improve his business and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get a contract with a Central Valley company for buffalo milk."
"The supply was no longer there," Moreda said, explaining the shift in availability for the soft serve."
Double 8 Dairy has stopped producing its buffalo milk soft serve, a popular item in the Bay Area for over a decade. The Palace Market in Point Reyes Station was a notable vendor of this product. Customers are now turning to Jersey milk soft serve from Valley Ford Cheese & Creamery. Joe Moreda, co-owner of Valley Ford, acquired the creamery portion of Double 8 and noted that the buffalo milk supply was redirected to a mozzarella cheese maker, leading to the discontinuation of the soft serve.
