Vegan Mob closes its Downtown Vallejo location
"To go to the next level, sometimes you've got to take a step back. I had to make the decision to either ride with it or cut it short to continue my journey with franchising. Gordon said the move was not made lightly, but was necessary as a means to better position both himself and the brand for long-term growth."
"I want to create the culture—that's who I am. If I'm behind the counter the whole time, I can't do all these other things that really make the business successful. My talent is the creative side—the recipes, being the face, the marketing, pumping the team up."
Vegan Mob, a popular plant-based soul food restaurant in the Bay Area, closed its Vallejo location on February 21 after being part of the East Bay Vegan Renaissance. Founder and rapper Toriano Gordon announced the closure via social media, citing a strategic shift toward franchising. The decision came after the restaurant experienced slower business starting in November, forcing Gordon to spend more time on daily operations rather than creative entrepreneurship. Gordon emphasized that stepping back from the Vallejo location allows him to focus on innovation, recipe development, marketing, and brand culture—areas where he believes his talents are best utilized. The closure reflects broader economic challenges facing small businesses while positioning the brand for expansion through franchising.
