Federal immigration agents visited a strawberry packing facility in Ventura County, provoking fear among employees. However, the situation did not escalate into a raid, as informed staff confidently asserted their rights to require a warrant for entry. Ezequiel Ochoa, the siteâs gatekeeper, reported that ICE officers left when asked for a warrant. Local immigrant rights group, the 805 Immigrant Rapid Response Network, had alerted workers to their rights. Although no detentions occurred, the agents' presence created unease, highlighting the potential impact on immigrant communities in agricultural areas.
We know not to open the gate unless a valid warrant is presented," Ochoa said.
The agents' appearance alone was enough to unsettle workers.
