After 8 Years, This Castro Ice Cream Shop Is Shuttering
Briefly

The Castro Fountain, a beloved ice cream shop in the Castro neighborhood, will close its doors on March 23 after eight years in business. The owner, Juliet Pries, cited significant challenges in running a small business in San Francisco, including dwindling foot traffic and rising ingredient prices. Her focus will shift to her initial venture, the Ice Cream Bar, where employees from the Fountain will be relocated. This closure highlights the difficulties faced by small businesses in urban environments.
It has been a privilege to be a part of the Castro neighborhood for the past eight years. The last few have been quite challenging, so we've made the difficult decision to close The Castro Fountain.
It's just become too difficult to run a small business in San Francisco. I love having a shop in The Castro, and I hate to give it up, but I rely on foot traffic, which has dwindled.
In addition to a dip in walk-in customers, Pries also references the rising cost of ingredients, stating that it "makes more sense" to focus on the Ice Cream Bar, her first shop.
The employees of the Castro Fountain have all been relocated to Ice Cream Bar, per the post.
