"Waymo has received approval from the California Department of Motor Vehicles to expand its driverless robot-taxi service to the East Bay, North Bay, and Sacramento, the company said Friday. The permission allows the Google-spinoff company, owned by Google parent Alphabet, to offer robotaxi service across the entire Bay Area, northward to Cloverdale, and eastward to Sacramento. We're looking forward to opening our service to more Californians, Waymo said in a press release."
"A spokesman for the Mountain View company said he could not specify when service might roll out in the expanded area, saying Waymo wants to serve more of the region in the future, and this is an important next step. Earlier this month, Waymo began offering driverless robotaxi service on Peninsula freeways, and to and from Mineta San Jose International Airport. That expansion also included serving much of the Peninsula, and part of San Jose."
California Department of Motor Vehicles approval allows Waymo to expand its driverless robotaxi service to the East Bay, North Bay, and Sacramento. The approval permits operation across the entire Bay Area, extending north to Cloverdale and east to Sacramento. Timing for roll-out in the newly permitted areas remains unspecified. Earlier expansions this month added driverless service on Peninsula freeways and routes to and from Mineta San Jose International Airport. The expansion covered much of the Peninsula and parts of San Jose. The company received a pilot permit in September to begin operating at San Francisco International Airport.
