The California Public Utilities Commission has approved Waymo's request to expand its autonomous robotaxi service into more communities in the South Bay, nearing areas around San Jose. While the operational changes will not happen immediately, this marks a significant step in Waymo's expansion strategy, adding to its existing service areas in San Francisco and Silicon Valley. In addition, Waymo is making moves to eventually include San Francisco International Airport in its service, though this will take additional time and involves mapping the area manually for now. Their current operations provide 250,000 rides weekly across multiple locations.
We're very excited to share that the CPUC has approved our application to operate our fully autonomous commercial ride-hailing service in the South Bay and nearly all of San Jose!
Waymo provides 250,000 paid trips each week across its operations, which extends to Los Angeles, Phoenix, and more recently Austin.
