IBM moves scientists out of Almaden Research Center
Briefly

IBM is relocating research scientists from the Almaden Research Center in San Jose, California, to its Silicon Valley Lab. The Almaden facility, founded in 1986, has played a significant role in IBM's history, contributing to innovations like the first hard disk drive and relational database. Jay Gambetta, an IBM executive, confirmed the move while addressing misconceptions about the transition. He emphasized that IBM remains committed to its research initiatives in Silicon Valley and that the team's innovative efforts will continue at the new location. IBM's plans for Almaden's future remain unclear.
I wanted to help clarify some of the details and address any misconceptions that exist. IBM has been spearheading the development of breakthrough technologies in Silicon Valley for over 60 years and we are very proud of our work across the region and at the Almaden site.
And I'm happy to say that the efforts of our talented teams of researchers will absolutely continue on. We are simply shifting our teams' location to IBM's Silicon Valley Lab in San Jose.
