Hyundai's Supernal is implementing a 10% workforce reduction, affecting approximately 25 employees in California as it transitions towards aircraft certification and production. The layoffs include 27 workers in Fremont and one in Mojave, with a total staff of 500 remaining. Supernal is realigning its focus from technology to product development, guided by goals for the upcoming years. The certification process with the FAA will begin in 2026, with type certification expected by 2028, followed by aircraft deliveries scheduled for late 2028.
The primary reason for this reduction in force is organizational realignment from the technology development phase to the product development phase of our business.
The company is actively working through a certification process for its technology with the Federal Aviation Administration, with the application process beginning in 2026.
Our production aircraft is slated to begin deliveries in the end of 2028.
Following the cuts, Supernal will have 500 workers.
