"According to the indictment, they also allegedly hid how they transferred the information by taking pictures of screens rather than transferring the actual documents electronically. Eventually, Google's security systems flagged Samaneh's activity and the company banned her from using "company resources" in August 2023."
Three engineers—sisters Samaneh and Soroor Ghandali, and Mohammadjavad Khosravi (married to Samaneh)—were arrested and indicted in San Jose for allegedly stealing confidential information from Google and other technology companies. Working in roles involving mobile computer processors, they obtained trade secrets and sent them to unauthorized recipients in Iran and personal devices. While employed at Google, the sisters transferred hundreds of files containing trade secrets to each other and Khosravi. The group allegedly covered their tracks by providing false statements, erasing files, and photographing screens instead of transferring documents electronically. Google's security systems detected suspicious activity and banned Samaneh in August 2023. Despite signing an affidavit denying unauthorized sharing, the couple allegedly continued accessing trade secrets and photographing computers before traveling to Iran in December 2023.
