Observing planetary alignments, especially the upcoming one on January 21 featuring Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune, is a unique celestial experience. Expect their positions to shift as the month progresses, but they’ll remain visible until mid to late February.
Success in viewing this celestial event requires some preparation: allow your eyes to adjust to darkness for 20 to 30 minutes, and make sure to find a dark location, away from artificial lights.
While seeing two planets in conjunction is common, experiencing an alignment of five or more planets is rare, making the January 21 event and two additional alignments this year exceptional. The next similar event won't occur until 2040.
You can spot four of the six planets with the naked eye, but Uranus and Neptune require binoculars or a telescope. Helpful astronomy apps like Stellarium can assist in locating them in the night sky.
