"Once we started looking, we saw it everywhere. We saw that behavior almost every day," said UC Davis researcher Sonja Wild, highlighting the surprising frequency of predation observed among squirrels.
The researchers believe this predatory behavior has coincided with a sudden abundance of voles in this part of Contra Costa County, suggesting a flexible and adaptive dietary strategy.
