Revealed: The futuristic spaceship that could take humans to the stars
Briefly

Chrysalis is a futuristic spaceship designed for a 250-year journey to the nearest star system, Alpha Centauri. Measuring 36 miles long, it houses diverse ecosystems, food production rooms, and recreational spaces. The ship supports around 1,000 inhabitants and is powered by nuclear fusion reactors, utilizing concentric cylinders to create artificial gravity. It won the global Project Hyperion competition, which required utilizing existing or plausible technologies. The design aims to ensure passengers' safety and unity while preserving Earth's cultural and technological heritage during their transit to Proxima Centauri b.
The 36 mile-long cylinder features a range of biome ecosystems, food production rooms, libraries, parks, multi-storey living areas, schools, hospitals and sports complexes.
Named 'Chrysalis', it's just landed first place in the global Project Hyperion design competition, inviting teams to develop plans for a 'generation ship'.
The spacecraft, which can hold around 1,000 people, would be powered by nuclear fusion reactors while concentric cylinders rotate to generate artificial gravity.
The design is named after 'the intriguing possibility of having a spaceship capable of keeping its inhabitants safe and united, generation after generation'.
