NASA document reveals new Artemis II moon mission target launch dates for March
"A NASA document showing the potential launch windows for its Artemis II moon mission appears to have been quietly updated on Tuesday, with the agency highlighting March 6 to 9 and March 11 as possible target dates. NASA had already indicated that Artemis II would slip to a March launch date after a critical test of the mission's spacecraftthe so-called wet dress rehearsalwent awry on Monday."
"During the test, the Space Launch System (SLS) sprang hydrogen fuel leaksa problem that plagued the mission's predecessor, Artemis I. Despite trying to stem the leaks using techniques learned from Artemis I, however, NASA engineers still have some work ahead to fix the SLS problem. And the spacecraft's capsule, designed to ferry a crew of four astronauts in a loop around the moon and back, encountered problems with a recently replaced valve."
NASA has updated potential launch windows for Artemis II to March 6–9 and March 11. The March target follows problems during a wet dress rehearsal when engineers encountered hydrogen fuel leaks in the Space Launch System (SLS). Engineers applied leak-mitigation techniques learned from Artemis I but still need further work to resolve the SLS issue. The Orion capsule also experienced problems with a recently replaced valve. A successful rehearse-fueling without crew remains required before a firm launch date can be set. If the rehearsal succeeds, Artemis II could launch in about a month; otherwise, the agency may target early April.
