Monty the giant schnauzer wins Westminster dog show
Briefly

Monty, a giant schnauzer, won the prestigious Best in Show title at the Westminster Kennel Club dog show, marking a significant achievement for the breed. Co-owner Katie Bernardin expressed immense pride in Monty's hard work. This win, which comes after two previous near-wins, is particularly notable as Monty will retire from showing. The competition featured several other finalists including Bourbon the whippet and Neal the bichon frise. Despite protest from animal rights activists, Westminster highlighted its celebration of dogs' various roles beyond shows.
"He always tries so hard, and we're just proud of him," she told the crowd at Madison Square Garden.
"He's just a really cool dog," she said in an interview before his win, which will be his last.
The spirited schnauzer won the huge American Kennel Club championship in December, and he'd been a Westminster twice before.
Westminster says it celebrates all dogs... some do therapy work, search-and-rescue or other canine jobs.
