Kilauea on Hawaii's Big Island, one of world's most active volcanoes, erupts
Briefly

At around 2am local time, increased earthquake activity was observed at Kilauea, and the first signs of lava emerging appeared shortly thereafter, highlighting the volcano's active status.
Ken Hon, the scientist-in-charge at the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory, noted during a USGS live stream that the lava is emerging rapidly, typical for the onset of eruptions, which can pose immediate safety risks.
The immediate threat is posed by volcanic smog, known as vog, which can contain sulfur dioxide and adversely affect individuals with respiratory problems, emphasizing the need for caution for those living nearby.
While Kilauea is a well-known shield volcano that has been constantly active, its most devastating eruptions, such as the one in 2018 that destroyed over 700 homes, underline the potential hazards associated with these geological events.
